This project merges contemporary architecture with archaeological heritage. The preserved ancient wall of Durrës stands as the central element, an authentic fragment of the city’s layered history, now protected behind transparent glass façades that allow public visibility and respect for its material integrity. The intervention carefully balances past and present, framing the historic masonry within a modern structural envelope characterized by clean lines, stone textures, and reflective surfaces.
The custom-made entrance door serves as a sculptural narrative, engraved with motifs that recount the story of Durrës through time. Inside, the design continues this dialogue: minimalist walls are detailed with linear bronze inlays, while murals depict archival imagery of the city’s past, creating a museum-like atmosphere. The floating staircase and the illuminated niche displaying archaeological artifacts enhance the spatial experience, transforming the entryway into a symbolic passage between eras, where history, memory, and modern design coexist in harmony.
